The Hamsa has a long history in Jewish tradition and throughout the Middle East. It has been seen as a way to invoke the protective hand of God and as an amulet to protect against the Ayin HaRah (the Evil Eye), while some Hamsas have an eye in the center to represent the ever watchful Eye of God. Other Hamsas have the image of fish. Why fish? Because fish don't have eyelids, it was believed that the Evil Eye couldn't penetrate water. 
 
Our Repair the Sea Hamsa has our logo at the center and is made from recycled plastic bottles, to show our commitment, as Jews, to protecting the water and the aquatic environment that protects us.
