Why Now?
The success of Reverse Tashlich in previous years has been inspiring—but one day is not enough to create lasting change.
That’s why in 2026, we are expanding the movement across the entire High Holiday season. With more time, more people can participate, deepen their impact, and carry this commitment forward beyond the holidays.

The Spiritual Connection
Reverse Tashlich is not just a physical act—it is an opportunity for spiritual renewal. Through this work, we align our Jewish values with meaningful action, fulfilling Bal Tashchit in a deeply tangible way.
It reminds us that protecting the environment is a Mitzvah we can live every day—especially during the Yamim Noraim, the High Holiday season.

Reverse Tashlich 2026
At Repair the Sea®, we believe that caring for the Ocean is not just an environmental duty, but a spiritual responsibility—a Mitzvah. Reverse Tashlich 2026 invites you to join a global Jewish movement dedicated to repairing the sea and safeguarding the water that sustain life on Earth.
Because Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot all fall on Sundays this year, we are expanding Reverse Tashlich beyond a single day. In 2026, you can participate anytime throughout the entire month of September, continuing through the end of Simchat Torah on October 4, 2026. This extended timeframe allows more individuals and communities to take part in this meaningful act of renewal and repair.
What is Reverse Tashlich?
Reverse Tashlich is an innovative approach to Jewish environmental stewardship.
In the traditional ritual of Tashlich on Rosh Hashanah, we go to a body of water and symbolically cast our “sins” into it, beginning the New Year with a clean heart. Reverse Tashlich transforms that symbolism into action by removing human “sin” from the water.
It is an opportunity to come together in a hands-on effort to clean beaches, rivers, lakes and shorelines—removing plastic, trash, and other debris that threaten marine ecosystems and the health of our planet.
Why Reverse Tashlich?
The Ocean is in crisis. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste enter our waterways, suffocating marine life and polluting the Earth. We cannot sit idly by while this destruction continues.
Reverse Tashlich empowers individuals, families, and communities to take immediate, tangible action to help restore the health of our oceans and waterways.
This is our chance not only to reflect, but to act.
The Mitzvah of Bal Tashchit—the Jewish prohibition against needless waste and destruction—calls on us to protect the world around us. By removing the waste we have allowed to accumulate, we protect marine life and the ecosystems essential for life on Earth, while actively fulfilling a Mitzvah.
Who Can Participate?
Reverse Tashlich 2026 is open to everyone. Whether you’re participating on your own, with family or friends, or as part of a synagogue, Hillel, federation, JCC, Moishe House, AEPi, youth group, school, or camp—whether Jewish or a non-Jewish ally—ALL are welcome.
Here’s how you can make a difference:
Organize or Join a Local Cleanup
Create or join a local Reverse Tashlich team and help clean a nearby beach, river, lake or waterway. As Ecclesiastes teaches, “All rivers run to the Sea”—every piece of plastic removed, no matter where you live, helps restore the Ocean.
Spread Awareness
Share the message of Reverse Tashlich with your community. The more people involved, the greater our collective impact.
Support Repair the Sea's Mission
Even if you can’t be at the water’s edge, you can support ocean conservation through donations or by organizing cleanups in your own area.
Reverse Tashlich is about more than cleaning up trash—it’s about reclaiming our connection as Jews to the natural world, to each other, and to our shared responsibility to protect the planet.
Join us in 2026 as we take action, raise awareness, and Repair the Sea—
one cleanup at a time.
Together, we can make waves for change.
Get involved today—because we need the Sea.

It is not your duty to complete the work,
but neither are you free to neglect it.
